The Amherst Wordsmiths are two journalism students at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. Inspired by Mary Carey's Newswriting and Reporting class, Nelly Adamietz and Michelle Liu have created a platform to engage and connect students and community members.
Centered out of Amherst, Mass., Liu and Adamietz decided to coin the name "wordsmiths" as the goal of their writing--to give power to words and master the art of language, emitting magic and a certain quality that makes writing come alive.
Adamietz and Liu spent class time as well as personal time in creating the format and content for the blog, focusing on a user-friendly aspect for the reader.
Maroon was the color that evokes the UMass Amherst spirit. The font created a colonial, old-fashioned feel that coincides with not only the location, but also the name of the blog.
